Quimbaya Latin America Strengthens its 2024 Programme Towards ever more Virtuous and Respectful Tourism

For more than 36 years, Quimbaya Latin America has always been committed to respecting its local service providers, helping them to develop, and making travel not just a way of consuming but an opportunity to meet a country, its people, its customs and way of life, always with respect for nature and people.
The 2024 Guaranteed Departures “Rendez-vous sur place” programme continues to pursue this objective, which is our DNA. More than ever, in response to the expectations of travellers, the challenges facing our planet and the various economic conditions, we are reinforcing our commitment to virtuous tourism.

In concrete terms, the programme of guaranteed departures for 2024 focuses on 3 major areas:

  • Discovering the major sites of interest in each country, while respecting standards and limiting the number of participants to small groups.
  • Meetings with local people, activities designed to strengthen the interaction between travellers and the country visited, experiences that every passenger will remember.
  • Finally, programmes that are more respectful of our environment, sometimes with choices made to limit domestic flights in order to concentrate on certain regions and just take the time to observe and better appreciate our surroundings.

Here are a few examples by destination:

“See you in Colombia 2024”

We have chosen not to visit certain places that require a lot of transport time for little time spent there (such as Villa de Leyva).

  • We have chosen to limit our domestic flights and to take direct flights rather than connecting via Bogotá. This means making choices in the itinerary.
  • When activities or discoveries can be grouped together in the same area, we prefer this option.
  • In concrete terms, we are including Medellin and the surrounding region in this programme, offering the opportunity to:
    • Discover a coffee plantation (and therefore not go to the Coffee Triangle)
    • Discover Santa Fé de Antioquia, a colonial city par excellence that has nothing to envy to Villa de Leyva
    • Discover the richness of the city of Medellin
    • Direct links to Bogotá and Cartagena (limited domestic flights)

“See you in Costa Rica 2024”

  • We choose not to visit certain places when the tourist season is not suitable. For example: Tortuguero is renowned for its turtle-watching. However, the turtle season (from egg-laying to hatching) runs from June to October, which does not coincide with the country’s peak tourist season.
  • We prefer to avoid crowding certain areas, such as Tortuguero, in favour of less-frequented but equally representative areas such as Cano Negro.
  • We’re slowing down the pace of the tour by spending 4 nights in La Fortuna/Arenal, for example, so that we can make the most of the region’s riches and not just pop in and out.

“See you in the north of Argentina 2024”

  • We have chosen to limit the number of domestic flights, offering a basic programme that allows you to discover the entire northern part of the country in depth, through a complete itinerary.
  • Similarly, for the extension to Patagonia, we have chosen not to go to Ushuaia. There are 2 reasons for this: 1) Ushuaia is a 24-hour stopover, which requires an additional domestic flight; 2) The exorbitant price of the Ushuaia/El Calafate flight, still for a 24-hour stopover in Ushuaia.
  • Passengers will take time to discover the fabulous north-western region of Argentina and will be able to take part in local activities such as a chilli pepper drying plant and poncho-making.
  • Celebrating local culture in the Salta region

“See you at Rio & Buzios 2024”

  • We have chosen to offer an experience in Brazil that does NOT involve any internal flights. Brazil is a “continental country” and visiting it requires a huge number of domestic flights, often with connections.
  • With this tour, we are favouring SLOW TOURISM, meaning that passengers will only change hotels twice during their stay, so they can take the time to explore the places they visit in greater depth.

“See you in Panama 2024”

  • A ‘star’ tour, based in Panama City, which avoids excessively long journey times
  • A visit to the indigenous Embera community, where the money they receive enables them to continue living according to their traditions
  • A visit to an agricultural farm.

Quimbaya Latin America is honouring Panama in 2024. Panama is one of only 3 destinations in the world with negative CO2 emissions.

Through this 2024 programme, Quimbaya Latin America is strengthening its commitment to tourism that is increasingly respectful of the entire tourism chain: respect for nature, respect for local populations, respect for its service providers and, very importantly, respect for its customers.
