A wetland reserve that is the winter home of vast flocks of flamingos, as well as many herons and other bird species. In addition, about 300 species of birds cross into the Reserve, which migrates. The ecosystem of Celestun is unique because of the combination of fresh water from the estuary and salt water from the Gulf of Mexico.
